Time for some not very big data biotech
It appears that the US government has separated mothers and their children and doesn’t know how to get them back together again. In particular, this is extremely difficult if the children are under 2 and don’t know their family name (looking for someone identified only as “mommy” or “mia madre” is challenging.
I think a data company with some need to apologize to the world can make itself useful. It is not too hard to match 3000 children who are too young to speak and their mothers provided the mothers eagerly cooperate.
DNA fingerprinting is possible. Maternity and paternity tests are possible. taking all 6000 or so DNA fingerprints and matching parents and children requires a few person days at most of programming then a millisecond of the processing power available to, say, Facebook.
The problem of getting addresses for matched pairs of parents and children has been solved long ago provided one has permission from the parents.
If it isn’t done, it’s because they don’t care.
uodate: good news from a firm which needs some good publicity and is, for whatever reason, doing the right thing. I applaud MyHeritage . They are offering free DNA tests to get families back together.
They clearly do not care as evidenced from the racists who run Fox and Friends:

“These are not our kids”? What an a$$.
If they were in Sanaa……..
the sun never sets on US bi-partisan evil
only two comments in five days?
not so much on the DNA solution, but on the policy that led to the problem… or the people that led to the policy?
a policy so evil it points beyond the Nazis to the fundamental evil that humans are susceptible to, something that “civilization” has struggled for millennia to overcome, something that would require the invention of the devil as a construct if not a metaphysical reality.
the Democrats have indeed taken note, but not so far, it seems, as to go beyond what might be mistaken for politics as usual.
at least, i assume that the Democrats with just a few Republicans could stand up and say “Mr Trump, tear down this wall! or the Congress will cut off your funding.”
This is still somewhat short of the lengths I would go … but like the rest of us, I need a little leadership before I commit myself.
[and, just for those who care, i am not a supporter of unlimited immigration. but i am not stupid enough to listen without throwing up to those politicians who say there is no other way to stop illegal immigration than to take children away from their parents.]
i hate to say this in a political space where it is the advocates of evil who have declared themselves to be fighting against evil, appealing to a hate-based Christianity. But maybe it’s time we took the concept of evil seriously. say, more seriously than politically correct speech.
