Things are going to be extraordinarily interesting in my passionate subject/liberal issue — Global Warming. New leadership in EPA, NOAA, NASA/GISS, Dept of Interior and Dept of Energy will shift attention to the alternative science that has been ignored or suppressed.
I actually expect to see several papers (new or more visible) that show how dodgy are the temperature records. Since this is an economics blog, increased funding for those alternative theories will finally improve the science. The results of this funding shift will be attention given to the benefits instead of to the empirically unsupported catastrophic possibilities.
The wheels are quickly falling off the Global Warming gravy train. How many other of the weak memes will see the same result?
Anti-wall campaign slogan:
Pink Donald (not swarthy): The Wall
Situation: 12 million illegal immigrants — maybe 2/3 overworked/underpaid Mexicans. So what?
Just think: 1 out of 40 persons among us is an overworked/underpaid Mexican — and it’s all our fault for not spending tens or hundreds of billions of dollars building a Maginot Line barrier to keep them out. Just imagine: we still have time to build the laughing stock of the world. Can’t think of the link but: according to US and Mexican authorities, Mexican emigration to US steadily down for 10 years — one source said by three; the other by ten. Maybe someone can dig it out — may have been at The Big Picture/Barry Ritholtz.
Hundreds of years from now archeologists are going to dig up the ruins of American civilization and find that it was 8 million underpaid/overworked Mexicans who brought everything down.
EM, could you re-phrase your comment in English? Are you saying truth is not important? Or are you saying I*’m back to discuss GW? Or are you saying something else…?
EM, also, I disappeared because I and the many other conservatives were banned from commenting. After the ban was lifted I continued to infrequently comment on many subjects not just my passion.
I’ll repeat my closing comment above: “The wheels are quickly falling off the Global Warming gravy train. How many other of the weak memes will see the same result?” The first and most obvious is the inability of the rural voters to act. The PC agenda(s) have been given the boot.
Always looking on the bright side, policy may not change that much but the right propaganda machine will suddenly tout how great everything is and they will believe it so little will have to be done.
To respond to your original post: AGW: toast, LGBT issues: toast. Police racism: toast, Radical islam immigration = toast. Open borders = toast. Obamacare = toast. Minimum wage = toast. Everything lib except for the few blue states= toast.
Sammy, even this: ” Everything lib except for the few blue states= toast.” isn’t totally true. When we break down the “blue” states’ internal voting pattern we clearly see and urban/rural split.
Moreover, the Dem popular vote difference is explained by 1 state, California, where Hillary won by >2M votes. CA has motor voter laws allowing anyone with a drivers license to vote.
For those who want to know when the democratic party drained the swamp and failed to really understand the “you can have democracy or wealth concentration but not both” Brandeis. It also details why we need strong regulation against some forms of our capitalist system.
CoRev, is that actually how the law works in California?
That’s not the normal meaning of “motor voter.” Motor Voter laws are usually ones where people are presented with the option to register to vote when they apply for or renew their license. That’s been the law of the land since the Clinton administraiton.
JG, I was too literal. This is the implementation:
“Registration has been a barrier to voting for millions of Californians. Approximately 6.6 million California citizens are eligible but not registered to vote. Under this new law, California citizens who are identified as eligible voters when visiting the DMV to apply for, renew, or change their address on a driver’s license would be registered to vote by the Secretary of State’s office. Voters would retain their right to opt out or cancel their voter registration at any time, as well as change their party affiliation. The proposed law would continue to protect those covered by existing confidentiality policies, such as victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. ”
JG, here is another explanation of how it works in CA:
“2. Is California’s Ne
w Motor Voter law the same as Oregon’s Automatic Registration law?
No. California’s law is distinct from Oregon’s in four important ways:
1. CA requires a person to attest that they are eligible to vote at the DMV before they can be registered.
2. CA will offer the attestation and any other voter registration questions in 10 languages.
3. CA will give a person the chance to decline voter registration at the DMV.
4. CA’s law offers some protection against any state law penalties
should someone inadvertently register to vote or mistakenly vote as a result of their DMV transaction.
(Note: These state law protections may mitigate the potential federal immigration consequences for persons who inadvertently register to vote, but may not offer full protection.)”
And this then moves us directly into the middle of the voter ID issue, if all that’s needed is a personal ?ATTESTATION? with weak penalties “someone inadvertently register to vote or mistakenly vote”.
There are weak penalties for all sorts of things, including electoral college voters voting for someone they’re not supposed to vote for.
Under the electoral college as it stands now, even a rather large amount of fraud can’t really move the needle. If we had a popular vote, it would be a nightmare of course, for all sorts of reasons (the money involved would necessarily explode, winners wouldn’t be “known” for days if not weeks).
In MA, it seems like you don’t get purged for not voting (I think this is illegal under the clinton act), but you do get purged if you don’t return your city census forms (“annual resident listing”).

And now the end is near, CoRev, with the election of Trump is back, figuring truth means absolutely nothing.
EM, could you re-phrase your comment in English? Are you saying truth is not important? Or are you saying I*’m back to discuss GW? Or are you saying something else…?
I am saying you are a total ah that has now returned to peddle pure bs about the “truth”.
You disappeared mainly because even your cherry picked data from scurrilous sources was rendered false by actual time and facts.
Now you are back with another plan.
No one should pay any attention to you, and I am going to be the first to do so.
EM, you won’t be able to control yourself to stop paying attention.

sorry, you were at least second.

Why think the Republicans pay any attention to Rand Paul?

Stories that the House is about ready to bring back earmarks.
I just heard that Ryan k/oed it personally though.
