Not even a cursory fact check
We all make mistakes sometimes, but there is a lot of this in the news.
Lifted from Robert’s Stochastic Thoughts:
Dianne Barrette of Winter Haven Florida claims that instead of paying $54 a month for health insurance (no hospital coverage and a $ 50 deductible for office visits) she will have to pay $ 591 for ACA level health insurance.
Www.healthcare.gov says that a single adult over 50 in Winter, Haven which is in Polk County, Florida can get Obamacare (catastrophic insurance) for $235.08 a month (before subsidies, and she states an income which would make her eligible). http://1.usa.gov/1f0s1Ov
I discovered this after the intense journalistic effort of googling Winter Haven Florida county and a few minutes at www.healthcare.gov (no log in required to check prices). This seems to have been too much work for Fox (no surprise) or CBS (the irony is killian me).
As Jon Stewart noted last night regarding our “news” system: Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Yes or no.
We are so FUBAR
Hacker News drops the ball, Mr Crawford…
But the Platinum Blond Plan, which pays only 90% and God only knows how much out of pocket, is $700.oo bucks per month!
Did I mention that there is a cost effective solution to our
health premium crisis – the Army!
May I remind everyone it was the Teapartiers/ uhh baggers for those so inclined that caused the close down. They wanted the totally unnecessary delay in implementation of Obamacare. Also remember Obamacare, your great wish for healthcare for the masses, did not raise rates, add coverage unnecessary for many, raise deductibles, cause millions to lose their existing coverage, add millions to the part time work rolls, slow economic development and certainly added more disposable income to the average workers salary. Obamacare implementation did not need to be delayed.
Oh wait. It was delayed by the person who blamed everyone else but himself for the shut down. Remember his claims?
Krauthammer: Obamacare’s failure could set back liberalism for a decade — http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/10/31/krauthammer-obamacares-failure-could-set-back-liberalism-for-a-decade-86265
I look forward to the success of Obamacare. Why? Because Krauthammer is never right about anything.
and hardly a word in the media about how “Red States” have been dragging their heels, refusing Medicaid expansions and the GOP’s loss of memory regarding the positions when Medicare Part D was being rolled out. Yeah, there are going to be issues, not everything is going to be solved in a week or even a month (wasn’t that way in Massachusetts, took them the better part of a year and that was with everyone looking to make it work) but who knew that denying people affordable access to private healthcare was a hill worth dying on for the GOP and the media has done the same crappy job as they did in defining what the ACA actually is.
