Health Care Thoughts: Obamacare Fail
When I mention problems with Obamacare implementation in the blogosphere, I am pummeled. Liberals think I am overly cynical, too focused on the practical, and I fail to understand the power of good intentions.
Ok.
The S.H.O.P. program for small businesses has been delayed until 2015 for the 33 states with federal involvement in the exchanges. Full exchange states have an option to delay. In effect, there will only be one policy available for employers, rather than the menu promised. If that policy does not fit, then……….?
What does this mean? 2014 is shaping up to be a disaster in the small business health insurance markets, where half of a transition equals chaos. Small businesses may have greater incentives to dump employees into the state exchanges, IF the state exchanges are operating as intended (not a sure thing).
One more time. Complexity is the enemy of a smooth roll out and operational efficiency.
Flip a coin.
Heads, Medicare for All
Tails, VA for All
Problem solved.
“One more time. Complexity is the enemy of a smooth roll out and operational efficiency.”
Therein you have just discovered the purpose of overly complex legislation. Why make it straight forward and manageable when you can avoid implementation with complexity?

What makes you think that anyone in our oligarchic government wants to solve any problem? Especially those problems that require some recapture of the stolen wealth that oligarchs treasure so dearly.
Jack, Silly honest bureaucrats like me always want to do what the law was intended to do–at its most benign, that is. Politicians and insurance companies, not so much. Always. Nancy

since i was drummed out of the Liberal camp maybe I don’t count
but I have always agreed with you about the faults of Obamacare and then some.
what i don’t agree about is that it is somehow the “fault” of the Democrats (well, them too, but the R’s are no better), or that the prior pfree market system was working any better.
Coberly:
I have never defended the pre-2009 system. I knew the faults in great detail.
Barack Obama is President and controls the executive branch where policy gets executed. Obama is a Democrat. Failure to execute is his fault. Sorry if that offends you.
This is getting interesting……

So, how many of the states running it themselves will be doing better?
Maybe they weren’t so dumb to do the work themselves rather than let the feds do it.
I like ya, Rusty. Keep on sayin’!

hardly offends me. it’s just that if you are a sucker for the”partisan politics” you will never get to the answer.
it hardly matters what i think, but just to save you some time:
i don’t like “democrats.”
i don’t like “republicans.”
i don’t like obama.
i don’t like the insurance companies.
and i don’t like the fact that people fall for the propaganda from any of the above.
“healthcare” kind of blindsided me. before that became an issue i knew that the Petersons were lying about Social Security, Republicans tended to believe the lies, Democrats were not to be trusted, but I hoped that if the people had a chance to learn the truth they could insist upon the truth that would save their social security. i did not reckon on the power of partisanship and the ideology of hate (the far left hates the rich so much they will destroy social security if only they can “demand” that “the rich must pay for it.”)
you undoubtedly know more about health care than i do, but every time you start to talk about it you fall into the trap of “blaming” democrats. of course the democrats are complicit. the partisan dance is how the “real power” manipulates you.
and no, the “real power” is not paranoia.
Mr. Fisher:
If the states do not agree to establish exchanges, the Federal Government will do it without their cooperation. If they do agree to setup exchanges, it will be in conjunction with the Federal Government.
