…the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) reports that a whopping 650,000 Americans have joined credit unions since Sept. 29 — the date that Bank of America announced it would start charging a $5 monthly debit fee, a move it backed down on this week.
To put that in perspective, there were only 600,000 new members for credit unions in all of 2010.
Don’t get mad, get even. It’s nigh impossible, but strive to buy as few goods and services from publicly-traded corporations as possible. Get off the corporate plantation. It’s good for the soul.

There are a lot of corporations that are good corporate citizens. There are a lot of non-corporations that are not.
Can you name a Fortune 500 corporation that IS a good citizen, that has not offshored its jobs and sheltered its income and repeatedly been fined and penalized for defrauding customers and government contracts? These organized criminals are pathological creations that need to be put to death, as they were by the thousands in the 19th Century bad old days.
My “money” is in a credit union, and a bank which is member owned (just like a credit uinion, not sure why it is called bank), and I dumped from MMF’s in early 07, having smelled the rats on wall st.
Day after Thanksgiving I start my diet!!
Will last until someone sends Christmas cookies.
We not only moved to a credit union but we spend cash exclusively in small familiy owned businesses which we carefully vet. That way we are not feeding money to the credit card companies or swipe fees for using debit cards.

I have been comtiplating moving my money over to my local credit union. There was actually some type of movement today with people pulling out of the big banks, and joining credit unions instead.
