Tempting the Gods by Talking

At some point, you have to conclude that GW has pissed off God. Every time he mentions something as a success, that success turns itself around.

From the State of the Union address given the other day:

America has added jobs for a record 52 straight months, but jobs are now growing at a slower pace.

No, they’re not growing at a slower pace – the 52 straight months have ended:

The U.S. economy shed jobs in January, a rare monthly dip in the number of people working and an additional sign of weakness amid debate about a possible recession.

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that the number of jobs shrank by 17,000 last month, foiling expectations that the economy would add perhaps 70,000 jobs during the period.

I remember how we were going to pay down the debt to its lowest level in 80 years, how the economy was supposed to grow quickly following tax cuts, how the Taleban was finished, how the insurgency was about over in Iraq, how the Iraqis were going to take over their own security last November, and how there was going to be political reconciliation. I remember how GW was going to be a uniter, not a divider. I remember how we were going to treat China as a strategic competitor, and then go to Mars. I remember how he looked into Putin’s soul, and what he saw there. I remember how we were going to have an ownership economy.

I also just remembered – I have work to do, so I’m going to leave the list at this. Feel free to add to it in comments.
