Foreshadowing

George Herbert Walker Bush wasn’t a successful president. Here’s a line from the State of the Union address he gave on February 9, 1989, just three weeks after taking office:

I’ve asked Vice President Quayle to chair a new Task Force on Competitiveness.

To screenwriters, this is known as foreshadowing.
