QuickSCAT

Little things have been consequences. There are some things the government simply does better than the private sector, and if the government decides not to do it, we all suffer.

An example coming down the pike is the failure to replace the QuickSCAT satellite… which will hurt our ability to predict storms (read: hurricanes) coming. I note… QuickSCAT itself is one heck of a success story. It was a rush job, sent up quickly to replace another satellite (NSCAT) that failed, and it was only designed to last 2 to 3 years after its launch in 1999.
