Clinton’s Sneaky 1992 Tax Increase
As Thomas Nugent babbles on about Laffer curves, he makes a funny:
And President Clinton, who snuck through a big tax-rate increase in 1992, experienced the retribution of voters in the 1994 midterm elections when Democrats lost control of both the House and Senate.
This would have been a neat trick as George H. W. Bush was President in 1992. President Clinton signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 on August 10, 1993 (must distinguish this from 2003). This bill and some alternatives proposals were openly debated in both the House and the Senate. To suggest it was “snuck through” is dishonest. But what would you expect from someone who doesn’t even realize that Bill Clinton did not become President until January 20, 1993?
