Why Do People Prefer the Affordable Care Act Over Obamacare?
Affordable Care act versus Obamacare Act
I will give you, there is nothing within this bill that is easy to understand. Along with Maggie Mahar and others, I took the time to read the act and attempt to understand it which even today causes me fits. As shown in this clip, many people can distinguish between the words Affordable Care Act and Obamacare; but they fail to distinquish the content and understand they are the same. Kudos to the propagandist to associate a black President with a particular Law. There should be a Goebbels award somewhere for this type of achievement in skewing the true intent of an act to just a person’s name. Would it sell better if we called it the Boehner Act or McConnell Act? People are acting against the interests of the whole and their own self interests because of a name. When you get right down to it and you know a large percentage of people within the wealthiest and richest in income nation in the world go without healthcare, why would you object to a plan to provide it because of the name even if it was not single payer, Medicare for all, or Universal etc.?
Maybe we should change the Link to Affordable Care Act to Black Man Care Act? Perhaps then, we might understand the true beliefs of a Congress who would shut down a government and people who might pick one over the other without knowing they are both the same. Hat Tip to Digsby for providing the clip.
The words are solely mine.

i don’t think so. i call it obamacare and i don’t care if he’s red or blue or purple. i have called it robamacare and robombney care. it’s pretty human to play with names like that.
people who don’t like it don’t like it because it’s mandatory and because they have been told things about it that scare them. what they have been told is mostly lies. but that doesn’t have anything to do with the color of obama’s skin.
i don’t know, but i wouldn’t be surprised that there are people who still don’t like the idea of a black man as president, or in the front seat of a bus. but i’m pretty sure that has nothing to do with obamacare.
The Affordable Care Act doesn’t have Death Panels.
Obamacare does.
The Affordable Care Act provides (duh) afforable care.
Obamacare puts a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor.
We can laugh but associations and labels matter. Jonah (Pantloads) Goldberg made a ton of money pointing out that you can’t spell Nazi, aka National Socialism without Socialism. So ‘Liberal Fascism’. Now to people who understand history and the evolution of all the poltical movements and ideas that were linked with the term ‘Socialism’ that argument makes as little sense as the equally valid argument that you can’t spell ‘Socialism’ without ‘Cialis’ (astonishing enough a reason why many a serious post on the former gets blocked by Spam filters set for the latter).
To return to the point only a lunatic would read into IPAB ‘Death Panels’. But since I suspect that even a huge amount of fairly high info folks on the broader features of PPACA couldn’t ID ‘IPAB’ on a bet it is little wonder that people like Michelle Bachman get away with claiming (and who knows perhaps believing) that its very existence is just proof of Obamacare Death Panels.
Hell if I watched Fox News I would be scared to death of Socialist Muslim Colonialist Jihadi Job Crushing Obamacare even as I welcomed the elimination of pre-exisiting condition limitations and actual premium rebates due to the ACA.
Propaganda works. And racism is only one tool in the propagandist’s toolkit. Though as here always a useful and well-worn one. But importantly not the ONLY one. Not everyone scared to death of Obamacare is an unreconstructed Klansman. Though of course there will be overlap between fear and hatred always.
listen to talk radio late at night…700 AM cincinnati, 750 AM atlanta, 760 AM detroit, & right across the radio dial…
there is a widespread & visceral hatred of obama & anything he does…you can hear it in their voices..

The word “Obama” is a republican hate trigger now, so around 40% of the population will have strongly negative reactions to it.
Some years ago I noticed the sudden rise of “Nancy Pelosi” as a republican hate trigger phrase. It was said in the same sing-song cadence dripping with venom by regular people, media personalities, and politicians. It became striking to me as I heard it more and more say exactly the same. One could imagine the denizens of 1984 saying “Emmanuel Goldstein” in the same robotic way.
“Hillary Clinton” got the same treatment, but perhaps the natural musicality of Pelosi’s name just worked better.
In the end if the program works out well enough (as I expect) this branding will backfire some.
Yes to all of the above. We note that Nancy and Hillary are not black. It is easy enough to promote and manipulate hate among humans… even well educated ones.
They tried to do it to Bill Clinton, but he good ‘ol boyed them to death.
Point is, in politics it pays to be smarter than your enemies.
Bruce- Do you consider Howard Dean a lunatic in regards to the IPAB?
At the risk of repeating myself, from my comment in reply to the post regarding the Koch Bros. sponsored propaganda. Maybe better suited to the topic at hand.

Deceit and deception are the order of the day amongst the reactionary right, both business people and politicians. Was Ted Cruz any less offensive in his rambling 21 hour stunt filled with distortions, misconceptions and out right lies about the implementation, costs and effects of ACA legislation.
Note, I won’t use the term Obamacare simply because Obama didn’t pass the legislation. The Congress did and Obama, as the President and a primary influence for that passage, signed the legislation into law. Let’s try to remember that the ACA is more than a plan from one man, backed by one man and voted into law by one man. It’s the Affordable Care Act, a name that underscores the financial aspect of the law. It is not a law that outlines medical practice. It’s a law that structures the health insurance industry in a way that allows for all people to be able to have such coverage.
Health care when needed is expensive. Health care isn’t a privilege, nor is it a right. It is an essential necessity. Make that point to the people that the Koch brothers, Ted Cruz and all of their lying associates are addressing with their false stories and asinine political ads. BTW, does the Koch organization that produced and placed those ads get preferred tax treatment under the guise of being educational? If so, the IRS should investigate and Justice should prosecute. Propaganda is a political activity masquerading as education.”
Little John. Well the answer to your question is “Well I don’t know. It would depend on exactly WHAT Howard Dean said about IPAD WHEN and it WHAT CONTEXT.
Somehow I doubt he was suggesting that its inclusion in ACA was proof of Death Panels. But if he was then I guess I would agree that he is a lunatic. Despite the fact that he was the first Presidential candidate I ever donated money to (and I still have the Dean Tour T-Shirt).
Of course links would be more useful than challenges in the form of “How do you like Dean now that he is a convicted ACA beater”. Because some evidence of the beat-down in question would be useful. Because I am calling ‘Strawman’. Go ahead, humiliate me with data and quotes and context. But drive-by snark doesn’t move me much.
(Because I am still Beating My Wife. Despite the fact that I have never been married. That is I am beathing her exactly as much now as I was in the past. If she existed which she doesn’t and never did. But ‘Good One!!’)
Sorry Bruce I thought you may be aware of Dean’s article on July 28th 2013 in the WSJ. I am too unsophisticated to provide a link. Check it out. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Dean’s viewpoint.
