This is an 11 minute clip of his speech, “The Lone Star Strategy.” It is worth a listen.

Republicans’ efforts to cut food stamps and defund the Affordable Care Act are just “the beginning of the game,” Sanders said.
“All of these issues are related to something that is much, much larger and that is the transformation of American society in a radically different way than it is today,” Sanders said. “And what my Republican colleagues, almost without exception, want to do now is take us back to the 1920s where working people had virtually no protection on the job at all.”
I listened to Senator Ted Cruz who looks and sounds a lot like Bill Murray (sorry Bill) in “Meat Balls or Stripes” . . . fun to listen to and get a laugh ; but who takes him seriously? He needs to go home to Texas and watch the corn grow.

There are areas in which spending could be cut and the PPACA represents an attack on the cost of healthcare and the associated healthcare insurance with regard to the economy. Other areas have been pointed out as well such as Defense which has grown in magnitude in similar fashion as healthcare. No nation has long survived the growth of defense which exceeds the growth of GDP going back to the Qin dynasty. Go back and read my posts and stop throwing out these generalities which have no structure as Bruce Webb suggested to you. Your constant bleating lacks merit and is weak.
It does not take the sacrifice of every domestic program which impacts 99% of the population for the benefit of 1%. It is not a Democracy when a minority 1% of the population holds hostage the other 99% nor is it a Democracy when a small cadre of political terrorists threaten to bring a nation to its knees by shutting down the government. Their opinion of right is not protected under John S. Mills tyranny of the majority and in fact we are threatened by their actions towards the majority. If this were an action by Occupy Wall Street or Show Down in Chicago groups, the police would be out to cordon off their efforts. Cruz and the rest of his cronies warrant similar action as imposed upon them.
I witnessed the “the [continuing] transformation of American society in a radically different way than it is today” at the supermarket yesterday. For older employees it was still a middle class job. For younger employees it was just another road to nowhere — since WalMart got into retail food and started that part of the labor market on the race to the bottom.
Legally mandated, sector-wide labor agreements anyone? When you start talking about that you will be talking about the only viable road back. Anything else (or more likely nothing else — nobody ever seems to propose any workable solutions) and you will just continue batting the breeze.
Americans really are intelligent enough to see the free market logic of sector-wide collective bargaining (initiated after WWII by the same volks who brought you Tiger Tanks and U-boats — not by the left wing) and make it the number one topic of national political conversation.

You sound good and compassionate, which I understand is a major goal of the liberal. But the federal government is spending $1.50 for every $1.00 they take in. Defense spending is about 20% of the budget. So if you cut defense spending by 50%, you still have a $1.35 to $1.00 problem. What are your compassionate cuts?

The cuts come in slowing down the rising cost of healthcare and healthcare insurance. Medicare is growing at ~ 1.5% and commercial healthcare is at the lowest level in the last couple of decades. This is the result of the PPACA and the changing of the cost model from services for fees to better outcomes for fees. Read my answer to you over at the other post of mine in which you replied to for more info on how the PPACA is self funding and reduces the deficit. The PPACA will cut another $1.2 trillion in the 2nd decade of its existance. You really need to read up on the topic.
Defense can be and should be cut and maintain at no more than the growth of the economy. For decades the US government has out spent economic growth.

I still don’t understand why we need to cut anything. Taxes are just WAY too low. Bring them back up and growth will take care of itself as it has repeatedly in the past.

My impression from all the squealing is that the wealthy are complaining at being asked to pay their share instead of demanding subsidies from the rest of us. Who else gets an $800B gambling insurance policy for zip dollars a year. Give me a deal like that, and you can find me in Vegas where the games aren’t as rigged as on Wall Street. The entire financial sector is just welfare gone out of control. Granted, just about every large business in the country would be flat broke if the government wasn’t at their beck and call subsidizing them and bailing them out.
Sorry, but one lone senator suggesting that perhaps someone besides a billionaire might deserve a crumb or two from the table is not squealing like a stuck pig.

No one is saying that PPACA will solve a budget issue of any kind. That’s the point fool. The two are only indirectly related, but are otherwise separate issues and that is precisely why the debt limit legislation should be required to be separate and without attachments.
Kaleberg has hit the nail square in regards to any budget deficit discussion. Republicans and the media seem only to think that budgets are only about spending. That’s a strange way to run a business. If government is to be more business like it needs to begin to look seriously at its need for more revenue. Given that all the wealth and income is skewed to an extreme degree it is self evident that government revenues have only one direction to look toward for improvement. That’s good business. Know where the money is and look to those that have as the best potential source of income.
