In the 1920s, β30s and β40s, the Democratic Farmer-Labor Party was, in effect, the mirror image of today’s Tea Party, except that it was active in only three or four states: the Dakotas, Minnesota, and (I think) Wisconsin. It was the most progressive major political movement in the country, and controlled the nominating process for Dem candidates in those states.
