I’m spending the next two days with a couple of hundred CPAs and lawyers
specializing in health care. If I come out with my brain intact I may have some insights on what is happening.

    Definition of an accountant:

A guy who likes numbers but doesn’t have enough personality to be an actuary. :) )

Reiterating and extending what I added to Robert’s Senate predictions thread:

The GOP of 2012 continued a 50 year trendline continuing to become whiter, older, more southern and rural, and apparently less educated. An opposition party that continues to shrink into irrelevance by marginal appeals to the fears of white lower class men hurts the Democrats too.

I don’t see how the poobahs of the GOP manage the Tea Party Inc insurgency they saddled themselves with but to be fair it’s not my fight. Good luck with that Goopers you’re going to need it.

My earlier comment wasn’t exactly surprising so I figured I should mention what for me was the surprise of 2012: The nothing burger of Citizen’s United decision.

The 1% pissed away billions trying to sell a product nobody wanted. I saw an exit poll from Ohio that indicated that voters who were aware of “issue ads” were more likely to reject those messages by a significant margin. There are some things so unpopular no massive ad budget can sell them. Good to know, or at least good to be reminded of it.

It turns out Billionaires who are experts at rent extraction and tax avoidance are not super competent at picking political winners. Who knew?

i hope you are right. i am afraid they will get better at advertising. i am also afraid that O is what they wanted all along. i am expecting O to sell out the people who gave him a second chance. watch out for the grand bargain.
