Did Romney speak blasphemously?
Of all the things being deconstructed regarding the debate last night, this is the one that stood out for me:
QUESTION: The outsourcing of American jobs overseas has taken a toll on our economy. What plans do you have to put back and keep jobs here in the United States?Romney:…which will allow me as president to be able to put in place, if necessary, tariffs where I believe that they are taking unfair advantage of our manufacturers.
So, who is it on Romney’s team that has decided this is a viable tool regarding the position labor is in? Is this what would be expected of a Republican presidential candidate? It just floored me to hear Romney speak the word “tariff” when presenting his solution to the question. What would Uncle Milton think of his school’s chosen one?
I was downright shocked at that, too, Daniel. And I’m not even an economist.
Yiiikes.
Not just tariff blasphemy.
As Dr. Black observed, when Rmoney shared his history of the “woman binder” he also acknowledged affirmative action. A binder full of underrepresented minorities is an operational description of affirmative action.
His militarized US diplomatic missions, sacreligiously politicizing the death of a US Ambassador.
The women’s groups went to Romney he did not seek them out. He filled a bunch of unimportant positions with women in Mass.
He then vetoed 800 plus bills, that is how he works with democrats.
His talk about importing for post grads is craziness. They comein and ask 40% the salary a US citizen.
Charging China as a currency manipulator is easier said than done, but Romney stands for nothing other than killing the New Deal.
Then his occupy Syria gag!
Tariffs are a flip flop, Romeny is no more going to do that than cross Grover Norquist.
Romney says what he believes will be well received at the moment. Moments change as do audiences so what gets said changes accordingly. The only consistent theme in Romney’s political and business history is to win; for Romney to win. The interests of the country and of other people are really unimportant to him. He is totally self centered.
“What would Uncle Milton think of his school’s chosen one?”
How cute of you to think that the Republican party is driven by Uncle Milt.
There’s a very strong strain of economic autarky in it. Think Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan for example (not that either are Republicans at present but you get what I mean).
“When the audience changes I change my position.”
What Willard Romney thought Keynes said.
