Topical thread….Irene and people
Since Sunday noon till about Tuesday 6 pm had no power. The live high voltage wire downed along with two trees prevented cars coming or going for the duration of days, so helped spur reflection on neighbors, basic water needs and food stuffs, and in some cases emergencies (not our area). Still, fire and ambulance vehicle access was blocked because going around was not possible.
You would be amazed that people’s catchphrases for home wifi are forgotten, including where the printed version was hidden. Even the local starbucks and wifi was down. Ken could fill us in the the lack of running water I believe.
How about you?
I was surprised to get through this mess without any damage at all. Anytime there’s a thunderstorm in Hockessin, Delaware we lose electricity (and internet , and phone) for a day or two at least.
While I was enjoying my reprieve I noticed helicopters overhead for the entire midday. I was wondering what the heck was going on?
I found out last night courtesy of the intenet what was going on. The bodies of two bright young men were found in a branch of the Mill Creek behind the Lantana Square Acme less than two miles from my house.
You want to know about people? We’re two less here, how about you?

As a tech veteran, I recommend using words like ‘pigfucker’ for your password; you won’t forget it, and you won’t divulge it to the undeserving in a moment of weakness..
Hi Mark…can you e-mail me at angrybearblog@gmail.com
No damage to the house, but lost power for 24 hours. Also lost ~ 12 medium sized trees out of my wood lot. My two tree stands in that wood lot was attacked by the deer god and one came down with its tree, and the other actually held up three smaller tree
The difference between Isabel and Irene was a little higher winds and rain with Irene, and no storm surge damage as with Isabel.
Being on a well and septic and using a home generator to power the well pump solves a lot of the problems. Didn’t lose the food stored in the freezer and refrigerators.
As of yesterday PM, there was still power outages just a short distance away and the schools remain closed.
Living in the country can be good.
How about you?
So. NH. we were spared any outages, a tree in yard will be fire wood next year.
A little work cleaning up, took advice from son who was in Houston for Katrina, Rita and Ike. Filled car and had supplies.
Very lucky this time.
For emergency water filtration, these are quite useful as are the larger home countertop systems. As long as you’ve got some water someplace, this will filter it. Cheers, JMP
